Faith as a Mustard Seed

My favorite piece of jewelry is my mustard seed necklace! If you look at most of my pictures, I’m almost always wearing it – I love it!

It helps me remember that it doesn’t matter how small I am or how big a problem is, I can still overcome whatever comes my way. My life motto is, “I can do hard things!”

When I saw the mustard seed necklace I knew first, I needed it, but second, it would help remind me of the good that comes through trials.

I really wanted to feature Sheila because she created the necklace and was so kind to me as I gushed about how much I loved the necklace.

Tell us more about you!

I began making jewelry in December of 2014. It wasn't to start a business but to make a few pieces for myself that would remind me that God has a plan for my life.

My family and I were in a transition trial and things weren't going as planned. I made a necklace with the inspirational message "Be Still & Know" on it. As other women saw it, they wanted an inspirational piece of their own.

I realized that there were women everywhere that needed wearable reminders to look up and to depend on God for the unplanned events in their lives.

So Dandelions In December was born. Like dandelions growing when they aren't "supposed" to (December), those dandelion moments in our lives reflect that God is in control and they are great moments to see them through a different perspective.

A few years before, I had seen my first dandelion growing in December and that always stuck with me. I knew that “Dandelions in December” would be the perfect name for my business.

What is your go-to piece of jewelry?

My mustard seed pieces – both the necklaces and the bracelets!

What’s your favorite thing about what you do?

Connecting with my customers and business peers, hands down! God has brought so many amazing people across my path and I am blessed with the best customers ever.

What’s your favorite motto and scripture?

My dad was my hero. He passed about a year ago. He lived out his simple faith in front of me. That legacy of simple faith is what I want to carry on. So I guess my motto would be "simple faith."

My favorite scripture would be Romans 8:38-39

"For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

We (my husband and I) use He always helps us climb them. We have it on a mountain in our house. I also have a mountain necklace, that my wonderful sister Shaina gave me. I always think of that saying when I see it

I wouldn't say I necessarily have a personal motto, but I do try to select a word of the year to guide me. This year's word is "connection". My goal is to develop a stronger connection to myself, connection to God, and stronger connections to others.

Ohh, love that word Kaushay! I think it's something we all need as well as we've been social distancing. Grateful for technology and other ways to find connection 😊

Right now I'm trying to live by the scripture "by small and simple things are great things brought to pass" Alma 37:6. It's a great reminder that I don't have to do everything at once but by doing the small things daily I will be able to achieve my goals.

I love the line from Hamilton, “I’m not standing still, I am lying in wait”. To me it means even pausing can be intentional and important to your goals.

Love that! It's so true, it's important to take actions, but it's also important to take time to pause. Sometimes the time to pause helps us reflect and readjust our direction.
